The Author:  Rebecca A. Holdorf, MA, CH, CCH

I call myself a "pouting" Bloom County/Outland fan who deeply misses Berkeley Breathed's daily wit in our local paper. My entire life can be captured in a single statement Opus made in a long-ago cartoon segment on "What is Life?" He said:

"You are born,

you live,

you go on a few diets,

and then you die."

What insight!

(Berkeley Breathed, WHERE ARE YOU when we need you???)

Well okay, .....life might be a little more meaningful than that.

I guess if you read my books, you can see that I evidently DO believe there is GREAT MEANING to life, but perhaps our biggest social and cultural problems are that we don't seem capable of presently comprehending life's TRUE meaning.

Like Opus, the perpetual innocent--the eternal optimist--we want to believe there's more to life, but it's just darn hard to get past that Baskin Robin's store and not believe that God placed it there just for us--for better or for worse.

It could also be fair to say that my personal theosophy/philosophy is more similar to that expressed by His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, who in a television interview once summarized his beliefs with great glee:

“My religion is kindness.”

"Metta," is the Pali word for “loving-kindness.”  I personally think loving-kindness is a GOOD THING!

And no, I am not Buddhist, nor do I have any other particular religious affiliation. I believe in the power of "love for all," just as Jesus ascribed to; and as he suggested, I feel that our primary task on this earth is to love everyone, no matter how difficult that often seems.

Through loving-kindness, we may find that ability. Because when we are both loving and kind to others, we feel more inner and outer peace.

Kindness and compassion recognize the sameness of all. There is no separation in thought or action from those around us--we are one being with similar needs and wants--all searching for appreciation and acceptance. By honoring the goodness inherent in others, I honor the goodness of myself as well.

"Oneness" is a word I use frequently in my books. When you can actually feel the oneness of all beings, you know at your deepest level that we are all in this experience together--all acting as one great consciousness searching for reflections of itself. We are all satellite sensors of the Source, exploring and emoting to continually expand awareness.

In my opinion, this is how humanity evolves--by expanding consciousness and raising ourselves out of the mire. Sometimes that group consciousness takes great leaps, and other times it struggles along under institutionally-imposed restrictions. But as individuals, we have control over our own consciousness evolution, and by expanding our own consciousness we automatically raise humanity's consciousness a fraction. Enough raised fractions added together, raises human consciousness by a whole level.

So no matter what you see going on around you--hold your own center--hold your own concept of loving kindness and be that person who sees all others as simply a reflection of herself struggling through life's distractions.

Radiate your loving presence wherever you go--be the love you wish to see in and feel from others--and they are more likely to reflect that same love back to you. Hey, works for me!

In peace and love to all,

Becky

P.S. ....Oh, did you want my résumé? Is that what a BIO is supposed to be?

Well, I think it's more important to know WHO I am, rather than WHAT I've done to date,...but I could be wrong.

Besides, I've got 4 divisions to my company, Foundations of Light, LLC, and every one of them is "ME, doing my thing," in each of them.

So, in the words of the immortal comedian Robbie Havershamp,

"Don't worry, Mr. Dreyfuss. I gots skills!"
