The Japanese word "Reiki" means Universal Life Force Energy. Rei is the universal, transcendent spirit and Ki is the vital life force energy. It is believed that Reiki assists the increased transference of refined electromagnetic energy from the Universe-at-large to a recipient's energy body--the surrounding energy field that encases us like a cocoon (invisible to most people--but not all, as some people who are more psychically or spiritually attuned can actually see it). We really are beings of white-light energy. Reiki is not a religion, but is referred to as an ancient, energy-healing or spiritual-healing technique. It is likened to the healing abilities of Jesus and Buddha, where a physical being of highest purity was able to tap into the energy of the Universe to affect other physical matter, and in those cases, to counter disease or injury. I personally believe that Reiki (the Universal Life Force Energy) speeds the body's own ability to rejuvenate and in some cases, regenerate healthy cells, by enhancing and increasing the positive, energy flow throughout the energy body. We all have the ability to learn and practice Reiki on ourselves and on those we love. It isn't limited to an elite few who can draw this energy from the world around us. All of us can do it if attuned and taught the techniques. Are all Reiki practitioners the same? Well, some people have fewer energy flow resistors than do others which is why some people can channel greater quantities of energy than other people. And some people have greater capacities for energy flow. Jesus and Buddha were more direct links to the Life Force which is why their results were instantaneous. The purity of their spirits made them the ultimate conduits for Life Force energy. Most of us aren't that pure. Think of it like electricity flowing through thicker or thinner gauge wires, or water flowing through different sized piping. The thicker the wire, the more current it can handle, and the larger the pipe diameter, the greater the quantity of liquid that can pass through it in a shorter amount of time. Those with more resistance limit the flow passing through them. The higher the attunement level of the practitioner, the greater the energy flow channeled. For instance, A Master-Level Reiki practitioner can channel a far greater quantity of high-frequency energy than a Reiki Level-One practitioner, and more than most Reiki Level-Two practitioners. If the practitioner has even further attunement, the pipeline widens again and the quality of the energy flowing through them also increases--it is often even higher-frequency than before, which means it may have a greater effect on a client in a shorter time period. As was mentioned on the previous page, Reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. He was granted the knowledge in a mystical vision and was attuned in Reiki during a three week period of meditation, fasting and prayer on Mt. Kurama in Japan. Reiki, which means Universal Life Force Energy, is the name of the energy-healing ability that Dr. Usui brought back to share with the world. His successor, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, a retired Japanese navy surgeon, opened an energy-healing clinic in Tokyo where clients were treated and additional healers were trained. Hawayo Takata was one of those clients whose extremely precarious health was restored after four months in Hayashi's clinic. Eventually, she was allowed to be trained as a Reiki healer at the clinic. Traditional Reiki, called Usui Shiki Ryoho (Usui's System of Natural Healing), was brought to the west by Hawayo Takata who resided in Hawaii at the time. Can Reiki Really Heal People? In an indirect sense, yes, because what Reiki can do is replenish the natural energy flow of someone who's energy field is disrupted in some way, which in turn, allows the body to reestablish its normal, maximum function. However, we each have to take our own healing seriously--physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. We have to take responsibility for ourselves. Reiki can help us in many ways, but never lose sight of the fact that we have to want to be healed for any treatment to work--that and we have to change the behaviors that might have created the problem in the first place. While that sounds like a disclaimer of effectiveness, what it actually means is that illness of any kind is a learning experience for us as spiritual beings who came to the earth to explore and experience all facets of the mystery known as "LIFE." If we have not gained the intended knowledge from the illness lesson and are ready to release the illness from our beings, we will hang on to it to increase our knowledge of ourselves or of our situations until we release the need for illness perpetuation--or we will use the illness as a vehicle to help us face our fear of death and to continue our spiritual evolvement in the next dimension. It takes awhile to view it in this way, but illness is not so much a curse, as it is an awakening to other aspects of ourselves--it slows us down, it makes us refocus, and it helps us more closely examine what we want and need in this life experience. It often becomes the vehicle to greater self-awareness and greater realization of how much we love and need each other. It even helps us re-connect to our spiritual roots. Many people who have undergone serious health threats will emerge as "awakened" individuals who reset their priorities and view life differently than they did prior to their illness. What Reiki Is NOT! There are things that REIKI is NOT. Reiki is NOT massage! Reiki is NOT muscle manipulation! We are not making any medical claims with Reiki. If and when healing occurs through the use of Reiki treatments to increase the flow of positive, pure, energy-at-large into a recipient, it is because of the energy cleansing or spiritual-healing effectiveness of Reiki--it is NOT body manipulation or muscle manipulation of any kind. A Reiki practitioner can just as easily keep her hands 2"- 4" above a client through the entire treatment as to rest her hands gently on the client's body. Both manners of energy transference are equally effective; but many clients prefer to feel the actual warmth generated from the Reiki practitioner's hands as energy is passing through them, which is an added comfort benefit. Because Reiki is primarily directed into clients' energy bodies, rather than their physical bodies, it is not necessary to remove any clothing as it would be in a massage. Reiki is extremely effective for energy rejuvenation, for stress reduction and for spirit awakening. Once all of those powerful and positive components come into play within a recipient, a greater quantity of pure, life-nurturing energy flows throughout that person clearing away negativity and negative energies that create energy blockages--blockages that eventually lead to disease from energy stagnation and energy deterioration in more susceptible areas. Over the last few decades, our Western civilization has become more receptive to Eastern civilization philosophies, martial arts techniques, and various meditation and healing modalities. Reiki is quickly gaining acceptance and appreciation throughout the United States now as a "energy-therapy modality," but it has been recognized as an authentic, healing treatment in Japan and in other global locales for nearly a century. Reiki is definitely not "something new" or "the latest craze." It is an ancient, energy-therapy technique revived by the Japanese in the early 1900s. It is real; and it is genuine. It is very effective for energy rejuvenation, for stress reduction and for spirit awakening. All of those components combine to improve one's outlook, one's attitude and one's sense of well-being. We make no health claims, but if you feel better because of receiving those benefits listed, only you can determine how effective Reiki is for you.
