The Purpose of the Two “Journaling to Find the SELF” Workshops

® Part I: Self-discovery and Self-improvement While Enhancing Spiritual Connections

® Part II: Healing the Wounded Spirit, and Determining New Life Direction

My Purpose
My purpose in hosting these two workshops is to encourage the view of "journaling as a healing art form," and to show others how to therapeutically use journaling to better understand their own motivations, actions, aspirations, fears, buried memories and even suppressed talents.

Journaling as a tool of self-expression, can also be used to further cultivate a more conscious connection to our spiritual overseer—the Higher Self—allowing the Higher Self, (often called the True-Self, or “the HERMIT” as I refer it) to better guide us through this life experience.

So, when the workshop title says, “Journaling to Find the SELF,” it means we journal to better understand not only the ego-based self with all its motivations, but also to become more aware of the Higher Self’s function in our lives as well.

The Higher Self’s Role
When you think of yourself as the composite being: the thinking, feeling, knowing, and acting person you presently are here in this room, there is actually another aspect of you here that you may not be presently aware of—it is your Higher Self—your spiritual overseer who often directs the situations you experience or sets the scenes for your life.

Those life situations are designed in such a way that if you learn how to maintain a loving and compassionate manner in meeting the challenges imbedded within each situation, you may never be “tested” in quite the same way again; but, likewise, if you respond inappropriately to the situation by striking out at someone or by creating further dissonance in the situation (especially when learning "how to harmonize" was the real intention of the lesson,) then you’ll be replaying the same scenario with the same or different players until you do learn to alter your attitude or behavior. That’s why certain patterns keep replaying in our lives. We have yet to comprehend their lessons and make the correct behavioral choices to avoid them in the future.

By establishing a stronger conscious connection to your Higher Self, or the Hermit, as I call it, you can ask the Hermit for guidance in future situations and then silence the ego-mind chattering between your ears long enough to hear the answer. Meditation is an excellent tool for strengthening “Hermit” connection, but journaling is also an excellent means of receiving direction from your Higher Self. It’s been my primary mode of connecting to my Higher Self for years.

The Two Journaling Workshops and Using Two Separate Workbooks
The reason why these classes are taught in two-parts with two separate workbooks is two-pronged:

One, each workbook will provide you with the excavation tools necessary to begin your “dig” into who you really are as a thinking, feeling, knowing, and acting being as determined primarily by your life experiences to date and how they have affected you.

And two, as you work through each workbook and write the exercises to help you recognize your own daily mode of operation in the world, you will begin to uncover a silent player in your life—that’s the Higher Self. When you start to comprehend the significance behind the concept that if those situations in life you once viewed as accidental, were instead “intentional”— the “there are no accidents in the universe” thinking of great minds like Albert Einstein, Carl Jung and Buckminister Fuller — then your entire life to date can be viewed from a much broader perspective — from that of your soul’s overseer—the Higher Self.

From this viewpoint, you can readily see that your life has great purpose and far deeper meaning than you might think it does at present—that all of those seemingly unrelated incidences throughout your life have a connective string binding them together. Your task is to revisit those “affecting” memories of the past to better comprehend their larger significance to you now, so you can then decipher the hidden codes of your life. That's what you will be doing with your journal--excavating the treasures buried long ago that will bless your life with greater understanding now.

Why Would You Want to Revisit the Past?
You do so to set your new life direction—to help determine where you go from this point onwards. As you revisit some of those highly “affective” moments, you may feel deep emotional pain again, but the workbook will help you unlock and successfully release those painful episodes so you can heal your wounded spirit and move on with your life—FREE at last of the once-strangling tentacles that had maintained some grip on you for years.

That’s why this workshop is divided into two parts, because the ground covered is so extensive, and to do a successful excavation, you have to properly set up the site first (part one), then dig and sift through the buried residues for the treasure (part two).

® Journaling Workshop Part One:
Self-discover, Self-improvement, and Enhancing Spiritual Connections

In Journaling Workshop Part One you become the archeologist uncovering the most exciting moments of self-discovery. As you closely examine certain aspects of your present life, you may feel the need to move toward self-improvement, and those options are explored as well.

Through your journaling on a regular basis, you should start to notice more input from your Higher Self who represents your spiritual connection, so through self-discovery and self-improvement, you will enhance your spiritual connection.

® Journaling Workshop Part Two:
Healing the Wounded Spirit and Determining New Life Direction

Journaling Workshop Part Two will focus on how to deal with some of the artifacts you unearth in your journaling digs—how to move through some of those emotionally-charged memories and how to use what you discover about your life to date as the starting point to set a new course for your life—free and clear of the attitudes and behavior that might still be negatively affecting you. What you unearth will put some of those previously painful memories to final rest, even though you thought you had successfully buried them long ago.

My classes are always casual, supportive, and respectful of your privacy.  Because journaling can be such a personal means of expression, you would not be asked to divulge anything that you don't wish to share with anyone. Class discussions are more along the line of how best to utilize the workbooks, and how best to reframe your previous life experiences, including learning how to deal with grief and trauma issues. ***

***We have professional resources available at a phone call, to further explore anything you might find that is too difficult for you to deal with by yourself. When grief or trauma are fresh or deeply entrenched, we can suggest a counselor to help you walk your path toward that new life direction. But journaling is still a primary tool used even by counselors, to help you determine the energy needing release.

So, check the Community Classes Calendar  for dates and times, and I look forward to seeing you at these wonderful, personal-exploration workshops.
