REIKI is now broadly recognized in the West for its tremendous health benefits. Alternative and Complementary-Health publications across the nation tout Reiki's ability to reduce stress levels and to regenerate a person's energy. How can Reiki regenerate someone's energy level?
What the practice of Reiki offers us is a means to recharge our batteries when we feel depleted--to rejuvenate our stressed-out systems and reenergize our energy fields. In the most pragmatic sense, recharging our energy fields with Reiki is similar to plugging an electrical cord into a power outlet to light your lamp--once the lamp plug enters the hot outlet, power flows through the cord and up into the bulb filament with an illuminating effect. The power flowing into the bulb provides a visible, practical function. But we don't see the electricity flowing through the cord. We only see the results of its flow--the light. Reiki is like that. You probably won't see the sparks fly unless you are extremely sensitive to seeing energy fields, but you will see the result of being recharged by the universal-energy flow entering your energy field. You will FEEL the result as a release of tension and negativity, a deep sense of inner peace, and a recharging of your energy level. At the same time, in the realm of higher-consciousness and contemplative practices, Reiki is very much a means to strengthen our connection to Spirit--to the power and force that created us--and through which we function. So Reiki is referred to as the channel of Spirit (Life-Force Energy) and can also be called a "Spiritual-healing modality." To those of us who practice Reiki, we sometimes shake our heads at resistance to complementary-health practices in general. If a practice genuinely helps people in some way, why fight it? But to coexist in this world with increasing restrictions and regulations on every aspect of alternative or complementary practices, we try to capture the true wonder (and often miracles) associated with Reiki into a culturally-acceptable, semi-comprehensive, complementary-health description, called an "Energy-Therapy" or a "Spiritual-Healing Modality," depending on your focus. In fact, it would be difficult to adequately describe in a few paragraphs what Reiki really is and what it means to all of us, but for a deeper comprehension of how powerful and affective Reiki can be, please read the information provided in What is Reiki? and The History of Reiki to better understand Reiki's importance to the world from my understanding of it. From a personal perspective, I consider myself to be a very spiritual person and yet I am definitely not a "religious" person because I do not subscribe to set doctrines and dogma of any religion. Reiki has enhanced my life ten-fold because it has strengthened my connection to Spirit, leaving me forever indebted to Spirit for the opportunity to experience this life and this world. I deeply appreciate the gift of Reiki that Universal Spirit (often referred to as God) bestowed upon all of us. So learning or receiving Reiki will never interfere with any established religion, but it will probably enhance the spiritual aspect of your own beliefs, because you will feel a more direct linkage to Spirit through Reiki practice. You will start to feel the interconnectedness with everyone and everything. You will feel the "oneness" aspect, also referred to as the rapture--a deep, deep sense of love and peace, and communion with our Higher Power. Reiki helps me to recognize our interconnectedness and interdependencies and to realize how "LIFE" encompasses ALL life forms, not just the human species. When we begin to broaden our perspectives on how affecting and affected everyone and everything is, we can step out of our own concerns and into the role of caretakers for each other. When we do that, we align to our true reason for existing at this time and in this place with the gifts or talents we were given. Reiki is a gift--a wondrous, exciting, seemingly-magical gift that exudes only love-energy. It is strictly higher-vibration based, so one never worries about ill effects or negative intentions. The only thing REIKI can ever increase is the quantity of loving, life-force energy in your life. There is no guilt or fear associated with Reiki, no ego manipulations or control motives exist at this level of healing--there is only love. We release all fear and allow the purity of love to envelope us, because that's what life-force energy really is--LOVE.
